Amalfi is one of the great highlights of the Coast that bears its name: a town that enchants visitors with its thousand-year history, its architecture and the unmistakable character of a place that ruled the seas for centuries. From Marina del Cantone, it can be reached in about 60 minutes by sea by renting a private boat, or through group or private excursions along what is considered one of the most beautiful coastal roads in Europe, the Amalfi Drive, with its breathtaking sea views unfolding one after another.
Once there, the historic centre welcomes visitors with its maze of alleys, scents and artisan shops. At the heart of the town stands the Cathedral of Saint Andrew, a masterpiece of medieval architecture with its façade decorated with golden mosaics and the monumental staircase overlooking the square. Amalfi was one of the four Maritime Republics, and its history as a powerful trading and seafaring city can still be felt in every corner. The town is also linked to the figure of Flavio Gioia, to whom tradition attributes the refinement of the compass.
A few kilometres away, perched on the heights, Ravello is absolutely worth a visit: its famous Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone, with gardens overlooking the sea, are among the most romantic and photographed places on the entire Coast.
