Naples

Naples cannot be explained; it must be lived. Founded by the Greeks in the 7th century BC and conquered over the centuries by Romans, Normans, Swabians, Angevins, Aragonese, Spaniards and Bourbons, the city bears the marks of every domination: in its art, architecture, cuisine and in the extraordinary character of its people.

The historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a maze of Baroque churches, lively markets, noble palaces and narrow streets where life still flows as it did centuries ago. And then there is the food: pizza, coffee, pastries. Naples is a city that gets under your skin and never leaves.
